About

They’re Using Tools! is Melinda Rainsberger, and the name was created in 2007 to compete in the annual 48-hour Film Project. It has since grown beyond Melinda in her kitchen and into a small group of designers and filmmakers with a knack for getting things done quickly and creatively.

Recently, they won the GR Select Nation Hummus Brand Competition, which only had 3 weeks for production and a $18,000 cash prize.

They’re Using Tools! is equally influenced by HP Lovecraft (of whom the group indirectly takes its name), classic cartoons and a sense of surprise when zombies use tools. Resourceful creativity is the base of their unique style.

Their specialties include:

Web Videos
Stop-Motion, Drawn and Other Traditional Animation Techniques
Print materials (albums, posters, etc.)
Website design and redesign
Custom Photography
Training in animation production

Curious where the line “They’re Using Tools!” comes from? Well, it’s a line from the movie Bride of the Re-Animator. This movie is a sequel to Re-Animator. The Re-Animator is based on a book called Herbert West–Reanimator by H.P. Lovecraft. So, without further ado, the famous line: “My god, they’re using tools!” (it’s near the end)
